According to data from NOAA's Storm Prediction Center, there were 45 preliminary tornado reports during September, compared to the 1991-2010 average of 74. No significant tornado outbreaks were reported during the month; nearly all of the tornadoes that occurred being isolated and weak. No tornado-related fatalities were reported. The September 2014 tornado count brings the year-to-date preliminary number of tornadoes to 762. There were 687 confirmed tornadoes for January-July, with 75 tornado reports still pending for August and September. The 1991-2010 average number of tornadoes during the January-September period is 1,109. Depending on activity during the remainder of the year, the 2014 annual tornado count could be one of the lowest values of the past three decades
