NOAA climate scientists who edited “Explaining Extreme Events of 2012 from a Climate Perspective” published in the Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society have made Foreign Policy Magazine’s annual list of “Top 100 Global Thinkers.” NCDC’s Thomas Peterson and Stephanie Herring along with Martin Hoerling from NOAA Research and Peter Stott from the UK Met Office appear in the list's “Leading Global Thinkers: Naturals” category.
